During the 1980s the technology of modal testing became very widely practised in all those engineering disciplines where vibration and other dynamic phenomena affect the behaviour and performance of structures and machines. The techniques involved in carrying out a modal test were developed to a high degree of sophistication while the applications to which the results of these tests could be put became more numerous and more powerful. At the same time as the advantages of modal testing were being enjoyed by an increasing audience, some of the drawbacks of inexpert use of the technology were being learned and recorded. These experiences reinforced the need for a thorough understanding of fundamentals upon which modal testing is based, and of the detailed workings of the various phases and processes which make up a successful test.

In this book, all the steps involved in planning, executing, interpreting and applying the results from a modal test are described in straightforward terms. Efforts are made throughout to ensure that the reader understands the physics of the various stages as well as (if not before) the mathematics.

This edition has brought the previous book up to date by including all the new and improved techniques which have emerged during the 15 years since the first edition was written. The more powerful applications are developed in more detail than previously and some new topics have been introduced, notable amongst which are the application of modal testing to rotating machinery and the use of the scanning laser vibrometer.

Great refrence text.

This book is very decent, it presents the subject matter clearly but is not as mathematical as Heylen's book. It is a very good sidekick to Heylen's book.

The narration by Scott Merriman is gentle yet evocative. A Beautiful, Heartwarming Story

If you are considering purchasing this book, consider no more. This book is the story of Auggie's best friend, Christopher. I recommend reading Wonder first if you have not read it already. It talks about Auggie's past and elaborates more on his time with Christopher, things that Auggie did not talk about in Wonder. This book will stick with you for a long time, and if you enjoyed this, I recommend purchasing Shingaling and The Julian Chapter as well. Fantastic job, R.J. Palacio.

I really liked this book, and it is a sequel to Wonder. This book is about standing up to what is right.But what really confused me was the end, and some of the parts. For instance, why August( a character) got so upset accepting the fact that Pluto was not a planet. Also, the ending of this book had a poem I couldn't decipher.But I have to say, this is a good book...

If you like the wonder books, this is for you. It shows Auggies story from Chris' point of view. It also shows some of the drama going on in chris' life. Its great. Just finished reading for, like, the 6th time. 5 stars, everybody!

A well designed and thorough book!

A phenomenally written book which is very well designed in its approach to delivering a lot of valuable and useful information on the topics in a very organized and thorough manner of delivery in the written word and graphics flow. From previous reviews it was clear that this book and relate editions were of the highest quality publications, however, I can say with personal certainty that it is not at all a disappointment and would recommend to anyone for EMS education and learning.

Wait... what?

I love the idea of a cookbook for teens. I love the idea of them cooking and me complaining about the food instead of the other way around. So I was eager to preview the cookbook.
Mistake 1: Teens jump in. They are not going to read the first 2 instructional chapters.
Mistake 2: Since they didn’t read the first 2 chapters, they need more guidance with the recipes. When you say sauté, put the definition of sauté in a box to the right of the recipe.
Mistake 3: They don’t want to make Leeky Chicken or Coconut & Curry Soup. They want to make Mac & Cheese and Quesadillas.
Mistake 4: There is no glossary of cooking terms. ?!@
This cookbook is a recipe for disaster - that you'll have to clean up.

All of the Bases for a Teenage Cook

I'm a teen who knows my way around the kitchen (at least decently so!) and I've tried two recipes out of this book. I'm a fan of their recipes for a one person for dinner, most of which don't require a whole lot of prep. I made "White Angel Hair" which had a delicious creamy and cheesy sauce. One of my girlfriends and I doubled it and had it for dinner-- it hit the spot. As someone who has done her fair share of cooking, this wasn't a challenging recipe, but it's helpful to have the proportions for spice and cheese. I also went for the chocolate chip cookie recipe. Mmmm :) This would be good for teens who are working their way up to cooking for themselves, especially because it gives you some pointers on shopping, such as how to keep your cost down. I'm not sold on the way it sneaks in whole wheat flour and vegetables for some recipes, but since I'd probably use them anyways, it's proooobably not a bad idea.

Bonus: This book has a full-blown glossary of cooking terms and conversions, as well as a thorough list of required cooking equipment.

For teens who want to cook, this is a great starting point

The beginning of the book has some great information on cooking terms and tools; however, it was almost too much information for a novice to absorb. There were many easy recipes, but most of them seemed to have a lot of ingredients, which might be overwhelming for a beginner or teenager. What I loved about the book is the great job it did teaching versatility in cooking--that you can interchange ingredients to suit your tastes and can substitute items with what you have on hand. Overall, I’d recommend this book for any teenager who has an interest in learning to cook.

Since the third edition came out in 1990, the field of leadership has expanded by an order of magnitude. This completely revised and updated fourth edition reflects the growth and changes in the study of leadership over the past seventeen years, with new chapters on transformational leadership, ethics, presidential leadership, and executive leadership. Throughout the Handbook, the contributions from cognitive social psychology and the social, political, communications, and administrative sciences have been expanded.

As in the third edition, Bernard Bass begins with a consideration of the definitions and concepts used, and a brief review of some of the betterknown theories. Professor Bass then focuses on the personal traits, tendencies, attributes, and values of leaders and the knowledge, intellectual competence, and technical skills required for leadership. Next he looks at leaders' socioemotional talents and interpersonal competencies, and the differences in these characteristics in leaders who are imbued with ideologies, especially authoritarianism, Machiavellianism, and self-aggrandizement. A fuller examination of the values, needs, and satisfactions of leaders follows, and singled out for special attention are competitiveness and the preferences for taking risks. In his chapters on personal characteristics, Bass examines the esteem that others generally accord to leaders as a consequence of the leaders' personalities.

The many theoretical and research developments about charisma over the past thirty years are crucial and are explored here in depth. Bass has continued to develop his theory of transformational leadership -- the paradigm of the last twenty years -- and he details how it makes possible the inclusion of a much wider range of phenomena than when theory and modeling are limited to reinforcement strategies. He also details the new incarnations of transformational leadership since the last edition.

Bass has greatly expanded his consideration of women and racial minorities, both of whom are increasingly taking on leadership roles.

A glossary is included to assist specialists in a particular academic discipline who may be unfamiliar with terms used in other fields.

About the Author
Dr. Bernard M. Bass was Distinguished Professor Emeritus in the School of Management at Binghamton University and director of the Center for Leadership studies. The Most Comprehensive Leadership Book Ever!

This is a brand new, updated version of Stogill's and Bass's handbook which was last updated in 1990. I purchased it because Ron Riggio and Ruth Bass talked about it at ILA Conferenc in November 2008, just prior to the release of the book. This was the last publication that Bernard Bass was in progress writing/editing before he passed away in late 2007. Also, although Ruth Bass worked along side Bernard Bass with much of his research, I believe this is the first publication which includes her as author/editor. It is truly a treasure -- chocked full of research which masters and doctoral students can use for dissertations, including gender, diversity, conflict, power, the "new" charisma and leadership, you name it! There is a new section on Global Leadership which I've found to be very useful for a Global Leadership class since it incorporates research which has taken place since the GLOBE study.

    Muy buen libro. La forma en que pone en perfectiva el hecho de que los videojugadoras están mejor preparados para enfrentar "la vida" y las ventajas que esta forma de vida les da en lo laboral tiene mucha lógica.
    Entre más lo leía, más orgulloso me sentía de pertenecer a la generación gamer.
    Lo veo también muy útil para todas aquellas personas que trabajan o desean trabajar en la industria de los videojuegos pues muestra las tendencias de los mercados emergentes, es decir, prepara el terreno para aquellos que están trabajando en estudios de mercado referente a los videojuegos (con la finalidad de desarrollarlos).

    a tremendous resource

    This is the best book ever written on reflexology, bar none. It is filled with excellent practical advice. There are chapters on the meridians of the body and how they are connected to the hands and feet of a person. The author shows how the different organs and glands are connected to energy points in the hand and how these organs can be healed. There is an excellent chapter on detoxifying the entire body using reflexology. These techniques work very well. A persons health is the most important thing, no doubt about it. This book gives a very easy method to cure disease and it works great. Its a pity that more people do not know about this book and suffer terribly, all without need. They should learn to question things, especially the medical establishment and think for themselves. This book is worth every penny and more. A tremendous health resource.

    Great drumset book for young drummers!

    My wife teaches drumset to all ages and loves this book for young students. It has cool pictures that students like and touches the basics of rock, jazz, and blues. It also has sample drum fills the students can play. A CD is also included. Her only complaint is that it might move a little too fast for very young students due to the fact that it only spends one lesson on quarter note beats and then jumps into eighth notes. Highly recommended.
